We are honored and very thankful for receiving funding from the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) for a new R&D project on silica-biopolymer hybrid aerogels. The project started end of 2025.

Over the project timeline of 15 months we have the following objectives

We further develop our silica-biopolymer hybrid aerogel materials to achieve improved properties and further reduce CO2 footprint (GWP).

We produce the new aerogel materials at pilot scale using our next-generation aerogel pilot plant at the Technical University Hamburg.

An important part of the project is application testing together with our partners to ensure that we develop the right materials for every application.

Construction design and building physics analysis are critical for aerogel materials.

We will create showcases to show what is possible with the new aerogel materials. This is important for market acceptance.

We are very happy about working with some of our closest partners in this project

Kahnt & Tietze GmbH – innovative architects and experts on slim prefab construction with carbon-reinforced concrete

That’s it International GmbH – aerogel coating experts

va-Q-tec Thermal Solutions GmbH (associated partner) – vacuum insulation experts

AeroProSwiss GmbH (associated partner) – experts on aerogels in construction

We have the following target applications within the project

Aerogel insulation render e.g. for energetic renovation

Aerogel composites such as boards and flexible mats. These are completely new aerogel materials.

Aerogel cavity insulation e.g. for energetic renovation

Aerogel coatings

Vacuum insulation panels

We are looking forward to working on this exciting topics!

Aerogel the world!
